"Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds." Bob Marley

    What is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming - a multi-faceted and practical means of helping to bring about positive change in our lives by changing both our thought patterns and the language we use to express ourselves. Having NLP tools available to us is a bit like having a manual for the brain. Sometimes we recognise our thought patterns aren't always useful but can't seem to do anything about them. NLP can provide the missing link to help us rewire the brain and ultimately achieve better health.

I was lucky enough to undertake my practitioner training with Phil Parker, a leading expert in the field and author of several books, including "Get the Life You Love, Now": http://www.philparker.org

NLP can be used to help with a range of issues including:

    Anxiety

    Stress (and stress-related conditions)

    Low self-esteem

    Overwhelm

    Anger

    Focus and motivation

    Building confidence

    Releasing limiting beliefs

    Weight issues and cravings

Phobias (often in just one session)

    Spelling

    Sleep issues

    Trauma

    Pain

    Conflict with others

    Internal conflict

    Career changes and goal-setting

    Procrastination

    Perfectionism

    Smoking cessation

    Unwanted habits and behaviour patterns

    Depression

    Creating a Life you Love!

How do I book a session, how much does it cost and how many sessions will I need?

Please call or e-mail me directly to discuss your requirements (details in 'Contact' section) and I will let you know whether I can help. Alternatively you can message me with your number (and some good times to call) and I will get in touch with you. I always offer a no-obligation chat over the 'phone (which tends to take around 10-20 minutes) prior to booking someone in so I can let them know whether I believe NLP to the best course of action for them and, if possible, to give an estimate of how many sessions I think they might need.

2023 prices are £90 per session for the first hour and a half (or part thereof) and on a sliding scale thereafter up to a maximum of £120 for a 2 and a half hour session. It is unusual for a session to take more than 90 minutes but keeping within these parameters cannot always be guaranteed as each session is carefully tailored to the individual client's needs and may include use of hypnotherapy. Please bear this in mind when booking your session, making sure to leave yourself enough time should a longer session be required, particularly if you believe your case history to be complex. Often having one or more longer sessions can also decrease the total amount of sessions required, representing a cost saving.

The cost of sessions for under-18's is a flat rate of £75. These are usually shorter, lasting between 45 and 75 minutes.

Lasting results can be achieved in just one session but most clients need around two to four. Those with several issues to resolve may need up to seven.

I respectfully request, wherever possible, 48 hours' notice of any cancellations.

When and where do sessions take place?

I am usually available on Monday mornings, most of the day on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. It may also be possible to schedule an evening or weekend session, however - once again, just get in touch and I'm sure we can find a mutually convenient time!

Consultations are conducted either at a garden chalet at a private residence in St Brelade, Jersey, or online via FaceTime/What's App video depending on which you prefer (and where you are based).

"He who refuses to embrace a unique opportunity loses the prize as surely as if he had failed." (William James).

What some of my lovely clients say:

"If you feel your life has come off course or you are feeling stressed or anxious about anything or anyone, look no further. Mel radically and very quickly shifted my whole life and got it back on track. I will be eternally grateful I came across her and her work. Thank you Mel." Miss H, Jersey

"Time spent with Mel is time well spent indeed. Mel has a gift. She's able to facilitate a new way of thinking. I was stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, self-destructive narratives filled my mind and I was unable to focus my energy on what it was I really wanted to manifest in my life. Mel didn't need to give me any tools with which to better manage my life, they were already within me. With the kind of grace and sensitivity that comes with years of experience, Mel carefully brought these tools to the forefront of my mind and showed me how to use them. Every day is an opportunity to practise being the most 'me' I can possibly be and I'm slowly learning to love that process; for who are we not to shine as bright as we possibly can? Life is a gift, I can't thank Mel enough for reminding me of that." S, Jersey

"My 17-year-old daughter has had just one NLP session with Mel and the positive effect was instant! She has struggled in every way since she started her A-levels last year - stress, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, the list goes on. Mel has had the most profound impact on her, giving her tools and mechanisms to help her focus on the positives, allowing her mind to focus and see clearly. I honestly cannot recommend her enough." Mrs S, Jersey

"I was feeling utterly destroyed after the sudden and unexpected death of my Mother earlier this year, it felt like my world had been turned upside down and I felt so lost and confused...even simple daily tasks were a huge hurdle and...I just wanted to hide...My family and friends were so supportive....Work were incredibly sympathetic too and it was the HR director who recommended that I connect with Mel to support me.....My first meeting was only an introductory walk which should have been 15 mins and lasted an hour, Mel was caring and kind from the outset. She didn't draw attention to my very obvious physical challenges...I was shaking, crying and stuttering, she heard me, she explained grief is one thing but the anxieties that had come into my life were only temporary and that she would support me with different tools and techniques to see that they were only temporary. Fast forward...and I am a different person from the girl who went for that initial walk, I even took my dog as I was so afraid to leave the house on my own. I have none of the physical symptoms remaining, I am taking steps to reconnect to the outside world, I know I can..and I will do it. I am on my path to grow and live my best life with the knowledge that I do not need to hide. The tools and techniques I now use daily. Thank you Mel for your patience, kindness and for making what felt impossible possible. " Fi, Jersey

"I've had a few ups and downs over the last year, but I just wanted to say how NLP truly changed and flipped my perspective on life. From the smallest tips you gave, to the incredible book recommendations and so much more - even when I feel myself in a rut, I am more aware and able to pull myself back out of it. I have also, more often than not, switched off the 'should' switch in my head! Last November, I took the plunge and asked my copywriting job if I could write on location as I travelled around Asia. Since then, I have crossed from the Philippines to Sri Lanka, to Vietnam, to Indonesia… I met a yoga teacher in the Philippines who I felt a real connection with, and it turned out she was offering a 200 hour yoga teacher training in March. As I told you, it had been a fear to commit to this for about six years! However, I am so happy to say that I came back to the Philippines and I just qualified :) I just wanted to say thank you for the time and space you held for me. I couldn’t believe how many parallels there were within the manomaya studies and NLP! I’m so excited to learn even more and develop these practices every day." Miss M, Jersey

"When I started NLP I was stressed and anxious about so many things it was difficult to list them all! Mel gave me the tools and techniques to break those unhealthy patterns. Since then, whenever I've been on flights or faced with situations where I normally would have panicked or been incredibly anxious, I've been able to use the techniques. I now feel as though I know how to handle anything thanks to Mel." Sarah, Jersey.

"I cannot thank Mel enough for helping me change my life. Within a few sessions, my whole perspective on life had changed. Life had felt like a chore each day, I felt like I had no time for anything, I was stopping myself from doing anything and I didn't even realise I was doing it. I had become so negative and it took my best friend to turn around to tell me how negative I had become to break my heart and I knew I needed to do something, so I went to see Mel. I soon realised it was me that was making my life negative and tiring, not my life which was actually amazing. Now I am so positive and so grateful of what each day brings. I do not fear things I used to (I now actually enjoy going for a walk in the wind and rain which I used to hate). I no longer get angry at others because I now realise I'm not always right and each of us has our beliefs we believe are right. I am so much calmer and so much happier. Mel gave me the tools and help to achieve all of this and I'm truly grateful. Please anyone who feels stuck, sad and even a bit lost please book a session with Mel." Alana, Jersey.

"I cannot thank you enough for the recent NLP sessions. You have been so conscientious with each one, delivering with such care and attention that I hardly noticed the changes in my thinking and behaviour. The 'lightbulb' moments have been profound and I'm just sorry it took me so long to discover the power of the subconscious and how you can change your perception for the better. Thanks once again." Annie

"The trauma of losing both my parents last year within the space of 4 months brought a lot of issues to the surface that I didn’t realise I had. After seeing my bereavement counsellor, I was in a better place, but I still needed to address my anxiety, confidence and self-belief. I got chatting to Mel up at Daisy Cottage after having a massage and before we knew it an hour had passed. Straight away I knew she could help, but the main thing I realised was I wanted to help myself. Mel has given me so many tools to work with now and I look at life differently - I count my many blessings and whatever life throws at me, I know I can handle it. I would like to thank Mel for introducing me to meditation and the colour Yellow. Thank you Mel!" M, Jersey.

"I went to see Mel with a long-standing issue surrounding public speaking. In just 3 sessions I was able to constructively deal with the blockages that were holding me back. She worked with me in a practical, honest and supportive manner and always made me feel at ease doing the exercises. You do need to put the homework in too, but it's worth it - although I still get jittery I am able to cope with it a lot better and am definitely more comfortable when having to speak up. Thank you Mel for making the impossible seem possible!" Miss E, Jersey.

"Mel is an outstanding practitioner. She is competent and empathic, patient and focused. Thank you so much for all that you do and how well you do it!"

    Jason.

"I had an appointment with Mel earlier this year, aiming for confidence and motivation at work. We went through some really intriguing processes that have been really beneficial to me. The major difference however was Mel understanding that I was deeply unhappy and unfulfilled at work. She helped me to access the creative and strategic mindsets to formulate major change. I can now see how stuck I had previously been and am now very much on track with retraining and planning my own business. I am delighted and highly recommend Mel and her technique".

    Sarah, Surrey.

"Thank you for gently nudging me out of my "gloomy place". You've helped me to re-locate my willpower, changing my "need to do's" to "will do's" - it's amazing how a change of words can lead to a change in attitude! I'm not perfect but when I hear myself say "I need to do", I stop myself and think "Do I NEED to" or "do I WANT to" and, if I want to, I will.

Also, thank you for getting my sense of humour and laughing with me - not everybody gets it, some people definitely don't, so it's good to be able to share a laugh with you.

I'm sure you're going to be a great support to a lot of people, but Thank You from me."

    W, Jersey.

"Working with Mel has allowed me to address some deep seated beliefs that were not useful. Resolving and removing these beliefs has allowed me to improve the relationships in my life. Thank you for your caring and compassionate style."

    Jimmy.

"My first introduction to Mel was via the phone. I was in an emotional state and didn’t know how to move forward or think positive with life/ myself. I was struggling to cope and this was having effects on my family and day to day life. The very first thing I noticed with Mel was a huge calming aura and ability to make you feel at ease.

Mel has the ability to re-focus your mind and make you look at things in a new light and a wider perspective. I got to see where these beliefs had come from in my past, easily transform and let them go, re-program my brain with empowering and loving beliefs which serve me so well. I learned to value myself, and grow as a person.

It does take time and is a big journey but all I can say is it is so worth it! Thank you Mel!!!"

  • Yoga

Yoga has been a huge passion of mine for 26 years - I was lucky enough to discover it in my twenties when I began attending classes in Jersey with the late Geoffrey Messervy-Norman, who I remember with great fondness and who has influenced my teaching style to this day - I owe him a great debt.

My formal teacher training was in 2007 at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Austria. The Swamis there are without doubt the most humble people I've ever met, sharing an inspirational ethos of peace and a mind-body approach to yoga which has stayed with me to this day. The Centres were "created not only to train people to become yoga teachers but to train ambassadors of peace."

The word 'yoga' means 'union' or 'connection' and my aim is to bring a sense of this to group classes. Many of the powerful traditions of yoga seem to have sadly been lost in its translation from East to West but I hope to convey through our sessions how yoga is so much more than just a physical practice - it is only when all elements - mind, body and spirit - are combined that the greatest benefit is derived.

I am immensely grateful to have crossed paths with numerous teachers across the globe who have influenced my style over the years, including:

David Sye: (http://www.yogabeats.com) as well as

    Michael J Stewart: (http://www.shantavirayoga.org)

and Andreas Vetsch, both of whom I was lucky enough to work with in Skyros, Greece, in 2003/4: http://www.skyros.com. I was very sorry to hear that Andreas passed away in July 2017. He was a huge inspiration and will be sorely missed.

We have so many wonderful yoga classes to choose from in Jersey - the beautiful island where I'm lucky enough to live. If you can't make any of my sessions please don't hesitate to get in touch - there are some really amazing teachers practising here now and I'd be more than happy to recommend classes to you based on the kind of session or style of yoga you're after :)

What to expect from one of my classes

I don't teach a specific style of yoga though classes are based on traditional Hatha yoga and influenced by the mind-body approach of my training.

Yoga timetable and how to book

    Schedule

Mondays 6:15PM: Relax and Unwind Yoga at St George's School (indoors or outdoors depending on the weather).

Thursdays 6:30PM: Relax and Unwind Yoga at St Ouen's Community Centre.

Sundays 10:00AM MindBody Yoga at St George's School (October to May) or outdoors in St Ouen at the grass opposite Jersey Pearl (June to September for The Island Yoga Project).

All classes are one hour long except Sunday mornings at St George's School which last 70-75 minutes.

My evening classes consist mainly of floor-based stretching with an emphasis on calming the mind after a day at work. There is still some focus on strengthening the body though as well as improving flexibility.

Sunday morning classes are more active and consist of a slow warm-up to ease us in, followed by sun salutations (surya namaskar), standing poses to build strength and then some floor/ground-based yin-type poses to lead us into a long final relaxation.

All levels are welcome though if you don't have much experience of yoga, or are just getting back into fitness, I would recommend you start with an evening session.

    Cost of sessions

Evening classes at St George's and St Ouen's Community Centre are priced at £12 per session, or you can book a block of 10 classes for £100.

Multi-class blocks are sold at the reduced price in the spirit that attendance will be regular and are flexible (in recognition of the fact that we all take holidays or get sick at times, so weeks can be skipped (within reason)).

They must however be paid for in advance - either by cash, bank transfer, or Paypal (please message me for details). Holding a pre-paid block also gives priority for spaces in class ( - I only sell 16 for each session).

A block of 10 Sunday classes costs £110, due to the longer class time, with drop-ins priced at £13.

A ten-session block comprised of a mix of evening and Sunday classes costs £105.

Booking is essential for all sessions (except outdoor Island Yoga Project classes) as group size is limited. This applies even if you have booked a block of sessions. Please contact me directly to secure your space (details in 'Contact' section).

Outdoor IYP classes cost £5 and should be paid for by dropping cash in the bucket on arrival.

    One to Ones

I also offer One-to-One classes, tailored specifically to you, in the comfort of your own home. These can be either indoors or outdoors, last one hour and cost £60 (or £75 for a couple or private/corporate/school group). Please contact me for more details.

"Mel teaches from the heart, creating a sense of community and belonging in her yoga classes. She turns the room into a space where students feel supported and empowered by their practice, both on and off the mat.

Mel’s classes encourage proper breathing and strength in the body while calming the mind. Her genuine and grounded approach to teaching is evidenced in the clarity of her instructions and ability to accommodate many levels of capability. Classes are structured so that each student can progress within the same class at their own level, moving through a series of asanas, pranayama and meditation. Mel takes the time to explain the benefits of each technique and provides just the right balance of challenge and repetition, with clear intentions and explanations.

As a person and teacher, Mel leads by example. Generous, dedicated and approachable, she has the ability to meet her students where they are and guide them forward with warmth and compassion." Sandy
